Question
What is the purging method in relation to TOC determination?
Summary
Purging method for TOC determination
Answer
Carbon may originate from either organic or inorganic compounds. However, as only the TOC (total organic carbon) is relevant, the purging method involves removing the inorganic carbon from the sample. The purging process is carried out using the TOC-X5 shaker. Wet chemical oxidative digestion is then performed. The CO2 from the digestion cuvette is transferred to an indicator cuvette through a gas-permeable membrane. This colour solution is then analysed photometrically.

The cuvette tests LCK385, LCK386 and LCK387 are used to determine the TOC based on the purging method.
A shaker (LQV148.99.00001) is required.
