Question
Why are chloramines suggested for longer distribution systems?
Summary
Brief introduction to chloramines
Answer
Monochloramine is considered a good disinfectant. It does not contribute to significant taste or odour and is more stable in solution that free residual chlorine. Chloramination is often useful in long distribution systems or with large amounts of storage where the water age might be too long to maintain a free chlorine residual.
