Question
What is the difference between certifications ATEX, Class/Div and IECEx for hazardous locations?
Summary
Briefly describes the difference between ATEX, Class/Div and IECEx definitions.
Answer
ATEX Zones, IECEx Zones, and North American Classes and Divisions are all hazardous explosive area classifications.  ATEX standards are used in Europe, Class/Division standards are used in North America, and IECEx standards facilitate international trade.  The classification systems are used to accurately identify the explosive risk of a certain environment, and also to specify protective measures for equipment and services operated in these environments.  Analytical instruments intended for use in an explosive atmosphere must be appropriately rated for safe operation.
