Question
Can phosphonate be measured using a total phosphate test using a persulfate digestion instead of a UV oxidation?
Summary
Measuring phosphonate using a total phosphate test instead of using UV oxidation
Answer
Phosphonates are a form of organic phosphate. The compounds can sometimes be read with just an organic digestion (Total phosphate - Acid Hydrolyzable (TIP)=organic phosphate) instead of a UV oxidation (UV lamp).  This is dependent on your sample type; results will include any organic phoshporus, not just phosphonate.  Results should be verified before discontinuing the UV digestion.
