Question
The Omnion software displays a heater out of range error while running the Lachat QC8500. How can this be resolved?
Summary
Lachat heater out of range error.
Answer
The heater out of range error will occur if the heater temperature falls outside of two degrees Celsius from the heater setpoint defined in the software.  This could occur due to a malfunction of a heater component or a temperature influencing concern within the laboratory.  Temperature influencing concerns could include close proximity to vent or a location close to a window.  A concern with a heater component is the most likely issue.  Prior to any servicing or replacment of heater components the user can try tuning the heater.

Heater controller tuning for Lachat 8500 series heater controllers:
1) Make sure the temperature of the heater block is room temperature.
2) Create set point in Omnion (60 degrees works well for tuning) and start the heater from Omnion.
3) View the controller. You should see the temperature start to increase.
4) As the temperature increases, press and hold the “UP” key on the controller (this is the button most distant from the core and closest to the indicator lights on the controller) until a dot flashes in the bottom right-hand side of the controller display.
5) Release the “UP” button on the controller. The controller should indicate that the block is heating. You will notice a slowing in heating near 10 degrees below the set point. Allow to heat to set point and tuning is then complete.
