Choosing the correct iron method
Answer
The correct iron test for your sample type will depend on a few factors.

-The FerroVer®, FerroZine®, and TPTZ methods for iron differ primarily in sensitivity. FerroZine® is the most sensitive, then TPTZ, and then FerroVer®.
-FerroVer® is the only USEPA-accepted method for reporting total iron (note: the sample must be digested, and a colorimeter or spectrophotometer must be used when reporting).
-Both the FerroVer® and TPTZ methods react with iron that is sequestered with complexing agents such as EDTA, but FerroZine®will not.
-The FerroVer® method is the simplest to use and reacts with all but the most very resistant forms of iron in the sample.
-The FerroZine® method uses a liquid reagent that has a strong sulfur smell.
