Question
When distilling a sample for arsenic testing does the apparatus need to be hooked up to an aspirator?
Summary
Correct distillation apparatus setup for the arsenic distillation method
Answer
Proper installation of the arsenic distillation apparatus is necessary for accurate results. The correct connection is without the aspirator connected between the J-Tube and Gas Bubbler. Using the aspirator for the arsenic distillation procedure will cause the sample to foam out of the glassware connections to the Gas Bubbler, resulting in low recovery of arsenic.

Reference the manual " Distillation Apparatus User Manual" Catalog Number 2265308 for more information. Previous versions of this manual had the aspirator connected, which is incorrect for accurate recovery.
