Question
Is there a pretreatment to remove Hydroxide interference when measuring conductivity in boiler water?
Summary
Hydroxide interference in conductivity measurement
Answer
To improve the accuracy of the test the operator can follow this procedure to remove the hydroxide interference. Add 4 drops of Phenolphthalein Indicator Solution, 5g/L (catalog number 16236) to 50mL of sample and sample will turn pink. Add 1 drop of Gallic Acid Solution (catalog number 1442326) at a time until the pink color is gone, then measure the conductivity.
